About Us

We Believe

A summary of the statement of faith for Guisborough Evangelical Church is below. For further details please download Belonging to a local church, or ask to see our ‘Constitution and Rules’.

The Bible:

We believe that the Holy Bible (Old and New Testaments) is God’s Word. It is completely trustworthy, and is our only guide for all matters of faith and daily living. (See 2 Timothy 3v16-17)

God:

We believe in the unity and co-equality of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. (See John 1v1-3, 14v8-11, 16-17, 26, 15v26, 16v13-15, 17v21)

God:

He is sovereign over all matters relating to his Creation, the redemption of his people and the revelation of himself and in relation to the final judgement (See Colossians 1v15-20, 2 Peter 1v3-4, 1 Corinthians 1v30)

The Lord Jesus Christ:

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his sacrificial death for his people, his bodily resurrection from the dead and his final return in glory for the judgement of all the world (See Matthew 1v18-23, 1 Corinthians 15v1-20, Acts 1v9-11, Philippians 2v5-11)

The Holy Spirit:

The work of the Holy Spirit is necessary to make the death of the Lord Jesus Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him repentance and faith in Jesus Christ (See John 16v7-11, 1 Corinthians 2v3-5, Hebrews 9v14)

Mankind:

We believe that all men have sinned against God, and can only be saved from God’s anger through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus by his death, resurrection and ascension provides full, free salvation for all his people as the only Saviour. (See Psalm 51v5, John 3v16, Romans 3v23, 5v18)

The Church:

We believe that there is one universal Church, which is the body of Christ and all true Christians belong to it. (See Colossians 1v17-18, Romans 12v4-5)

Church Ordinances:

We believe that there are two ordinances that should be recognised and practiced:

Church Membership:

We believe that a membership role should be kept for all those who:

Church Officers:

We believe that there are two identified in Scripture:
